here’s the church… October 30, 2007

Here’s the church, here’s the steeple?!@, open the doors and here’s all the people.  Serving is about you using the gift God gave you for the purpose of building up the church, His body.  Even in this simple illustration, without the fingers you’d have no church.  Don’t miss the opportunity.

There are three simple questions that I usually ask when helping someone plug in to serving.

  1. Are you a people person?  Would you like to be behind the scenes or on the front line with people.
  2. What is your availability?  Through the week or on a Sunday,  for 10 minutes or for 2 hours, once every two weeks or every week.
  3. What’s your work and hobby experiences?  Do you have a talent that you use at work or for a hobby that you really enjoy.

After getting the answers to these questions it is pretty clear which area of ministry to start with.  And then, you jump in.  Try something and if it’s not the opportunity that you just love doing let’s try something else.  You are not glued to any team.  Sometimes it may take some time to find that opportunity that you were made for.  I want to accommodate you so there are opportunities of all kinds, at all times.

So, are you a people person?…

Another Question October 30, 2007

I have another question for you.

What has been your favorite Volunteer experience in 2007? This could be your experience with a Volunteer that served you over and beyond or your experience as a volunteer and how God used you to serve another and were blessed in return.

**If you cannot post on this site e-mail me at sherry.moorhead@newspring.cc and I will post it for you (I’ll even proof it first for you if you’re worried about a typo).

I am the luckiest person in the world to be able to serve with the most amazing volunteers and staff ever. God’s the coolest!

In planning the last service of the year we would love to have your feedback on a couple of things. Here they are…

  • What’s your most memorable moment at NewSpring for the year 2007? Just a paragraph or two about the moment and why it was so special would be great.
  • What is your favorite song that we sing or that has been performed here at NewSpring? I can already see “Friends in low places” coming in first place. HA!

You can easily post a comment here or e-mail sherry.moorhead@newspring.cc to share your thoughts. Every vote counts!

I look forward to hearing from all of you and celebrating 2007 together.

Thank you for stepping up yesterday and making Sunday and All Access a huge success. We concluded All Access today by spending some one on one time with all of the amazing church leaders. As I answered questions I found that I kept coming back to a common response. A healthy volunteer ministry is one that enables and equips people to plug into their passion not a need. Though I know that many of you will always ask where do you need me the most, it’s my desire to make sure you guys are doing what you have joy in doing. That is why we encourage you to try different teams until you find that perfect fit for you. We are all on the same team with the same vision to show people Jesus and to see life change.

You are all amazing and as I share your ministry with others I’m floored that God has me where I am. I am blessed to be able to serve with such fine examples of Jesus.

All Access October 17, 2007

This Sunday NewSpring will be hosting 50 people from other churches (some as far away as Texas and Maine).  These church leaders are interested in learning more about how NewSpring happens each week. They will be here for the evening services only, touring the campus and observing ministry, NewSpring style.  A few staff will be showing them around and answering any questions they may have.  But guys, we can tell them all day long the story of NewSpring and what goes on each Sunday, but they will learn so much more by simply watching you.  You set the example and are a walking illustration of church centered around Jesus.  You make NewSpring happen each week.    So, if you serve on a PM team be here and ready to represent.

I would also like to invite any AM service volunteers to come on back for one or both of the PM services.  In my mind this is a mini Unleash.  For any of you who served with us at that event, you remember the energy and excitement that was in the air.  I would love to have as many volunteers serving as possible at these two services.  With the service time changes recently we are still in transition with scheduling for the PM services and have more opportunities at these times to serve.

Let’s set the example of an environment that radiates Christ’s passion for people.  You are the church!

See you Sunday.

Wow! There are now over 2100 volunteers serving at NewSpring. God is so good.

In my mind that is not just 2100 people volunteering. That is 2100 people who are experiencing life change and fulfillment. That is 2100 people that are growing in there walks with Christ and bringing honor to Jesus with their life. That is 2100 people who are influencing not only people in the church but also people in the community. That is 2100 people who are helping to create a contagious environment that reflects Christ’s passion for people. That is 2100 people in ministry together supporting one vision and passion to make the name of Jesus famous. Guys, this is no small thing.

NewSpring has 4630 individual members. There are 2530 individuals who are just waiting on you to ask them to serve along side you. Share the joy. Who do you know?

Heart October 14, 2007

We are here in Grapevine, Texas.  Howdy, NewSpring.  I really missed you guys today.  There is no place like home.  I’m here with a few other NewSpring staff checking out Satellite Campus life at Fellowship Church.  It’s been a great trip.  Everyone here has been very helpful.  These trips always make my brain hurt.

We are learning a lot about taking church to other places and the role that the people heart of people plays in that.  People are key but heart is essential.  Thank you guys for your heart and for centering your life around Jesus.  The Greenville Campus is going to be awesome.  It’s going to be awesome not because of the location, the building, or the type of chairs (although those will all be great).  It’s going to be awesome because of the heart of the people who are passionate about reaching the lost and seeing life change through Jesus Christ.  Because of the passion and excitement of the people God is going to be glorified and Greenville will never be the same.  I’m so excited about what’s coming for NewSpring Church and how God is going to use each of you to Impact thousands.

You guys Rock @ “Heart” ministry!

Influence October 11, 2007

John Piper said “God created me – and you – to live with a single, all-embracing, all-transforming passion- namely, a passion to glorify God by enjoying and displaying His supreme excellence in all the spheres of life.” How, in this world, do we do that? Follow His example in everything we do. Pray and read your bible. He created us all, he knows how we tick. When God made each of us he gave us a gift to use for his honor.  Some gifts are more noticable than others. I cannot sing, play an instrument, or teach. However, through exploring opportunities to serve in the church I discovered my gift and passion. You may not know how to bring honor to Jesus at work or in the grocery store or when you are talking to your kids, but you can learn. Serving is an introduction to a lifetime of Jesus influence. In Romans 12:9-11 we are called to really love people, to be genuine, and to serve the Lord enthusiastically. Our Joy in serving and loving others displays Christ’s passion for people.

Commitment Sunday October 10, 2007

Wow! Sunday was one of the best services we’ve ever had here at NewSpring. It’s so cool to look back at where we’ve been and see how far God has brought us. We have the best leader in the world! Thank you, Perry. You can tell everyone was pumped up about the service from the very beginning. The excitement and anticipation was so thick. Seeing testimonies of life change through NewSpring is such a powerful reminder of the ministry we are all doing here. Then to end it all with walking down and placing our commitment on the stage was breathtaking. I saw volunteers that I’ve had the pleasure to serve with for several years walking down with a smile on their face to place their pledge on the stage. Then I saw one family walk down to the stage, with dad holding the commitment in his hand, kneeling down and praying together. Dad got on one knee with his arm wrapped around his wife and their daughter stood by her mom with their arms locked. They prayed for a few minutes then placed their commitment on the stage. Wow, I lost it. Obedience was so evident in the lives of those walking down. Thank you for stepping up and leading the way. Line to the stage
